Some of us find inner peace through guided meditation. Others go for a run or snuggle with the felines. On the other hand, Eva Mendes finds her joy in the kitchen sink.
“Even when I have to do my job, and when I have to get something done — I can’t do it with my kitchen being a mess. Specifically, my laundry got damaged,” she says.
Like many of us, the COVID-19 pandemic has turned Mendes into something of a germ. “I got into a super-clean situation,” says Esmeralda’s mother Amada, 7, and Amada Lee, 6, with longtime partner Ryan Gosling. “I was crazy about sponges. And I knew these sponges suck.”
So it partnered with Skura Style, which makes antimicrobial sponges. Now she is an active business partner. So active, in fact, that they wax the capillaries around the sponge the way the stylist explains patterns and fabrics.
“It rinses out to dry really fast. It has less bacteria and dies off when it’s time to change it up.” “The sponge will tell you when it’s time.”
Which is a good thing because Mendes says her field is the kitchen. “Oh my man cooks. I do the dishes happily. I find it meditative. It makes me feel happy. I can practice mindfulness meditation because maybe as a pre-kid, I was doing TM – Transcendental Meditation – and other things. Now it’s like, Are you kidding me? I don’t have a five” Minutes to sit. But now I’ll take it where I can get it. It usually happens when I’m in the kitchen and when it happens to me.”
But when she’s on the road, she loves to have amenities on her side, too. Mendes knows what she loves and how to love it. This is what you always carry with you when you travel.

Mendes carries it all in this stylish and practical backpack, which has an integrated pebbled leather laptop sleeve. In addition, there is a shoulder strap that allows you to carry it or wear it on your shoulders. “For me, I wanted to simplify what I have to carry. I have a backpack. It’s not fancy—it’s just a backpack.” I used to have this with the kids and am now hands-free. And again, simplify, she says.

Ideal for combination or dry skin, this oil is infused with jasmine, neroli and rose. “I love face oils—I just respond to them. It’s essential to me,” she says. I use it as my main moisturizer. I use it on my eyes. I use it everywhere. I use it on my hands too. Because I don’t like a lot of products. “I don’t like a lot of things,” she says.

Not only are these candles beautifully packaged, they are made of ultra-pure beeswax. She says, “I try to travel with a candle—the scent is too big for me. I love these pricey candles—they’re called Qualitas. They’re gritty, but non-toxic and they have such a long lasting scent. I get the florals. Freesia is my favorite.”

No waste, you don’t want to use these reusable and washable wipes. “I swear, I’m not just trying to hook up my product, but I love our microfiber wipes. We have—I use it to clean my phone,” Mendes says. I like wiping things, not excessively. But I like wiping when I get on a plane or when I arrive to the hotel room.”
These microfiber wipes are a great way to reduce disposable paper towels. Each Wipe Envy cloth can be used up to 20 times – wet or dry. Plus, it’s machine washable so you can put it in for washing before your next use.

If she has to leave the house, Mendes takes the scent of her closest and dearest with her. “I have a travel pillow, but it’s just a baby pillow that I travel with – it’s not one of those fancy pillows [ones], “Says.” I always carry a used pillow case we’ve been using because it smells like home or our family so it’s just a very small pillow. The Coop Home Goods pillow is machine washable, making it easy to take on the road and then wash up when you get home.

This popular online mask tightens your skin, and when you wash it off, it looks amazingly refreshed. Mendes likes it. “Maybe a few years ago I had an eye mask, but not anymore. I don’t do anything like that on the plane. But I love the Hanacure mask.” This isn’t for the plane at all, but that’s definitely for the day after the meeting. It’s a face in a small bottle. It’s intense.”

Whatever city you’re in, Mendes picks up something she can write down her thoughts in. “Another thing I should have when traveling is my journal. I always take a journal. I pick up a journal wherever I go on my travels — then make it my next journal,” she says. Praha says so I’m assembling it in Prague last year. I just picked one in London based on a William Morris design, so this will be my next design.”
$35 at The Wrap Life
Mendes is known for her love of headwear, and of course she always has a great one on hand. “I always fly with one. There’s this Instagram feed, this page I follow — it’s called The Wrap Life. I get a lot of my wraps from it, and I love giving it love because it’s incredible,” she says.
