Agreement with Department of Health Professions, Ministry of Public Health-Qatar

The American Medical Association (AMA) and the Department of Health Professions – Accreditation Section (DHP-AS), Ministry of Public Health – Qatar have renewed their CME agreement under which selected activities are approved for the Department of Health Professions (DHP) Continuing Professional Development -CPD) ) credit are eligible for conversion of participation hours to AMA PRA Category 1™ credit. This agreement is valid until December 31, 2026.

Educational activities certified for DHP CPD credit by organizations accredited by DHP-AS to provide continuing medical education to doctors, as well as those educational activities certified for DHP CPD credit directly by DHP-AS, are covered by this agreement.

Only the following categories of activities certified for DHP CPD credit are eligible for conversion:

Category 1: Accredited group learning activities

  • Conferences, symposiums, seminars and workshops
  • Education Rounds, including Morning Briefing in Health Facilities, Grand Rounds, Morbidity and Mortality Rounds, Tumor Panels, and Case Discussions
  • Journalism clubs
  • Online synchronous or blended group learning activities

Category 3: Evaluation activities

  • Accredited knowledge assessment programs
  • Accredited simulation

DHP CPD participation hours as described above will be converted into AMA PRA Category 1™ credit for individuals who have obtained a Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine or equivalent international degree. Other health professionals may be certified to participate in a conversion-eligible activity AMA PRA Category 1™ credit.

Credit will be converted based on one hour of participation equaling one credit for all activities. Doctors wishing to convert DHP CPD credit into AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™, and other healthcare professionals wishing to obtain a certificate of participation will need to follow the instructions outlined below. Doctors and other health professionals will have to pay an AMA processing fee.

The following AMA credit determination statement must be included in all promotional materials distributed and all certifications given to physicians and other health professionals for their participation in the categories described above.

“Through an agreement between the Ministry of Health Professions – Accreditation Section (DHP-AS), the Ministry of Public Health – Qatar and the American Medical Association, doctors can convert a DHP CPD credit into AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Information on the process of converting DHP CPD credit to AMA credit can be found on the AMA website. Other health professionals may obtain from the AMA a certificate of participation in an activity eligible for conversion of credit into AMA PRA Category 1™ credit.”

Certificates issued to participating physicians should outline the number of hours of participation so that the appropriate conversion to AMA PRA Category 1™ credit it can be done.
