The three-day festival is back in full this year, and fans enjoyed an advanced program from some of the industry’s biggest acts
The 2022 installment of the Download Festival saw thousands of rock and metal fans drop for the first time in three years, and the acts that moved onto the stages on each of the festival’s three days were as good as they have to make up for lost time.
This was my second project to download, and the first was in 2016 when the festival grounds were hit by biblical rain that turned the plaza into something resembling a World War I battlefield.
Arriving at camp on Friday, there was hardly a cloud in the sky and the sun was shining on the many campers preparing their homes for the weekend.
She was out of the ring, and the first thing for me was a Welsh metal reggae band Skindred On the main stage of the festival, which is called The Apex Stage for 2022. With its accompanying signature “Newport Helicopter”, in which the audience was invited to wear T-shirts or other pieces of clothing over their heads, the band from the South Wales city put on a powerful performance that was quite entertaining All the time.
She moved on to the second stage, the composition stage, and joined an Australian rock band Airborne. Having seen them once before, I had a pretty good idea of what was in store. In short, they are noisy. very loud. But it’s loud the way a heavy rock band should be. Self-confessed fanatics of classic rock bands like Iron Maiden and ACDC, Airbourne crashed and banged through their group with a raw look at what proper rock music should be.
Cut through the crowds and head back to Apex Stage to catch the rear end A day to remember، Frank Carter and the rattlesnakes. Carter has intertwined his set with backgrounds in most of his songs, and expressed gratitude for being able to perform at the festival for the first time in three years – this will become a topic throughout the weekend as business and fans are relieved that live music is back in the wake of the pandemic.
Friday headlines Kiss Wrapped up the day in good shape – glam rock gave a great example of how they can interact with and entertain a huge crowd. Frontman Paul Stanley took a ride, literally, above the Apex Stage crowd as rock veterans treated thousands of spectators to the tracks that saw the band inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2014.
The night concluded with ‘Rock and Roll All Night’, the mammoth group’s 23rd track, one that is likely to be one of the last kisses ever made in the UK. Back in camp, some tried to sleep, although there wasn’t much sleep at any point during the weekend.
Saturday dawned upon thousands of camp sleepers at Castle Donington, and a relatively early start for my group in the ring.
dig a circle hate In the writing phase, the first stop was on Saturday. The beating heart of Sheffield’s heavy metal band was a huge warmth for the day; Not that anyone in the area needs heating; The June sun was pulsing gently. The pit was an experience hell, and after three years of being away from one, I forgot the pure adrenaline rush you can get from being in the mix. The only downside is that my sunglasses are a victim. But we moved on regardless.
Next until Saturday was absence contract, a costume formed in Cardiff in 2015. This also gave me my first visit to the Avalanche Theatre, located in a huge tent to the left of the Apex Theatre. This was followed by a sweaty 2-30 minute run, but since it was my first time seeing the band, I couldn’t ask for much better.
Ice nine kills, from Boston, are famous for having lyrics inspired by horror movies. They performed at the Opus Theater on Saturday afternoon. Among the horror film influences were IT and Psycho, the performance was as frightening as it was captivating.
After such delving into the history of the apocalyptic movie, shining The Apex Theater was next for us. The Florida rock band took to the stage as the day progressed in full swing, as audiences got a taste of the band’s new album, which is due to be released in July. Shinedown is also going on tour this fall, for anyone keen to check out somewhere somewhat different.
After a renovation at camp, it’s time for Saturday’s lead, the band that has practically made the main stage at their home download in recent years. iron maiden They’ve been an institution in the rock world for decades, and they’re a band that shows no signs of stopping. Frontman Bruce Dickinson is a famous showman, and his show on Download 2022 only added to that reputation.
The renditions of “The Trooper” and “Revelations” were performed in front of a large crowd, with thousands even treated to a second apparition. I turned my back to the stage, thinking the set was complete, when a clip from Winston Churchill’s hit “We Will Fight Them On The Beaches” began. This marks the beginning of the ‘Aces High’ track, a track that tells the story of RAF pilots during the Battle of Britain in the summer of 1940.
A replica of the Spitfire flew over the stage as Maiden approached her set in impressive fashion. Saturday is over, but the festival isn’t over yet.
A bright, stormy start to Sunday, and my first start to music. electric rock group orgasm They first stepped onto the Apex stage, making the most vibrant start to a Sunday morning I’ve ever had.
A break to get the water was needed (significant in terms of how he felt it was going to be another hot day in the arena) before I got back to the Apex stage.
Storm, a band that loves pirates, drinks booze and, judging by their stage, the Big Rubber Ducks hit the stage at 1.30pm. Their threads about drinking and public life as a pirate delighted a healthy crowd, and the band reminded everyone to watch how fun it was to watch.
Other highlights on Friday included being at the Avalanche Stage for a UK debut for Canadian metal group Spirit Box. Beautiful in some places and brutal in others, any metal fan looking to hear something new and stylish wouldn’t go too wrong checking out the band.
Round out a great Scottish rock weekend Bevy Clear. The group has become a household name in download groups in recent years, and their group has been a mixture of quiet and carnage. It was my third time watching Biffy Clyro live, and once again they showed why they are still one of the most exciting bands to see on a live stage.
The sun was out on Download 2022, and the countdown to Installment 2023 has already begun. A fun festival is expected for what will be the download’s 20th anniversary, but all stations will have to be pulled to top the 2022 edition.
