In Part I of our Teen and Teen Eating Disorder Conversation, we talked about what defines an eating disorder, why girls with ADHD are at the highest risk, and how caregivers and teachers can identify and address eating disorders in students. Meet the expert speakers

Dena Cabrera, Psy.D., CEDS, is a clinical psychologist and board-certified eating disorder specialist with over 24 years of experience in the treatment of psychological and psychiatric disorders. Prior to opening her own private practice in Anthem, Arizona, she was vice president of clinical services for Rosewood Centers for Eating Disorders. Dr. Cabrera is a nationally recognized expert in his field, author of numerous articles and publications, including co-author of the book Mom in the Mirror: Body Image, Beauty, and Life After Pregnancy (#CommissionsEarned). She is also a sought-after speaker and has been featured in numerous news outlets, talk shows, and prominent national and local publications. She previously served as President of the International Association of Eating Disorders Specialists (IAEDP). Learn more by visiting her online at

Megan Kniskern, RD, is the owner of MAK Nutrition Services. She is a senior lecturer at Arizona State University, teaching undergraduate courses in management, leadership, vocational training, and nutrition, as well as a graduate course on eating and substance use disorders that she developed. In 2021, Megan launched her online training program, Deepen Your Perspectives: Nutritional Therapy for Mental Health, of registered dietitians.

Megan works with clients with complex eating disorders and mentors other registered dietitians in the areas of eating disorders, substance use, and nutritional support for mental health; client-centered, trauma- and experience-informed non-diet training; helps clients and professionals improve the dynamics of food and understanding of the relationship with the body.

She is the co-author of Revised Standards of Practice for Eating Disorders and Standards of Professional Practice 2020 (published) and has served in previous leadership roles in the Behavioral Health Nutrition (BHN) DPG and continues to volunteer with the International Federation of Eating Disorder Dietitians (IFEDD).
