Conference play is going well, with all teams playing anywhere from two to four of their eight series with the other 12 major schools. And before kick-off this weekend, West Virginia topped the Big 12 standings with a 5-1 win over TCU and a sweep of Baylor.
Texas Tech, Oklahoma, and Texas are all powerhouses that fall into the top ten of all national surveys. West Virginia had the biggest bump in our weekly power rankings, jumping from seventh to fourth, forcing TCU, Oklahoma and Baylor to drop by one point. The only other weekly change was Oklahoma which flipped with Texas and moved to second.
The national rankings listed are based on current rankings by D1Baseball. Team records are through Sunday, April 10, and do not reflect any of this week’s midweek games.
Strength ratings
9. KS (13-17, 1-5), Last Week #9
The Jayhawks did not play the Big 12 series last week. They have a struggling Baylor team this weekend, so even winning two games may not be enough to move them higher. However, the difference between eight and nine in our survey is minimal, and given that KSU hosts a hot team from Utah, there is hope in Kansas.
8. Kansas State (15-16, 1-8), Last Week No. 8
Look above! Kansas State hardly clings to eighth place. They don’t have to be overrun by centuries this week to stay in this position.
7. Baylor (16-15, 2-7), last week #6
West Virginia swept The Bears last week, breaking their pattern of going 1-2 in a conference series. They host Kansas this week, so who knows what will happen. Will they eventually win a conference series? One of these teams will win the first team.
6. Oklahoma (18-12, 4-5), last week #5
Oklahoma has been a great offensive team lately. They won one at Stillwater but could have won another had it not been for three runs by Pokes at the bottom of the ninth place. They had their biggest 12-week farewells this weekend, so look for them to improve their overall record.

5. TCU (11-21, 7-4), last week No. 4
The Horned Frogs went 2-2 last week, which is definitely better than the 1-4 from the previous week. But the two-week slide dropped them from all but one of the national polls (Perfect Game, #21). They played a tough, competitive series against the Texans but lost 1-2. It won’t get any easier for the Frogs, who face Tech this weekend at home and then go to OSU next week. It’s time to see what these frogs are really made of!
4. West Virginia (10-20, 5-1), last week #7
Don’t look now, but the Mountaineers are sitting atop the Big 12 standings. Sure, they were late in starting and only played two series, while every other team played three, if not four. But right now, they are at the top with only one conference loss. They jumped more this week, up three points. They’re hosting the Cowboys this weekend – it’s time to see if the WVU is good or the Pokes are going to make them droop.
3. #7 Texas (24-10, 5-4), last week #2
Last Friday night, House Hansen was on fire, shutting down an entire game on the TCU. The Horns won 3-1 last week, but our voters still believed OSU was a little better and moved UT down a notch. They have a struggling KSU team this weekend, so they can be back again next week, depending on what happens in Morgantown.
2. #5 Oklahoma State (23-9, 7-2), last week #3
It was Bedlam last weekend at Stillwater, and he lived up to his name in his first two games. Friday and Saturday matches were decided late in the game, with each team winning one of them. It certainly looks like Ohio State University is on a collision course when they meet Texas Tech in a few weeks.
1. #4 Texas Tech (27-8, 7-2), last week #1
Once again, the Red Raiders find themselves at the top of our rankings. And this week, it wasn’t close. They have a good cushion in voting between themselves and OSU. They are in TCU this weekend. If your Horned Frogs slide continues, find a Tech to easily stay here.
Note: Strength ratings are determined by a group of fans representing most of the 10 schools currently participating in the Big 12 مؤتمر.
