The New York Rangers felt they played two strong games in the Carolinas even though they scored one goal and lost 2-0.

On Sunday, they’re looking to start climbing back into the streak with Games 3 and 4 at Madison Square Garden. Rangers will need to feed the electricity their fans generate on the ice at home as Hurricanes have packed them well.

“Hopefully we can use our fans to our advantage,” Kevin Rooney said on Saturday. “Our home crowd was the No. 1 star for us in this qualifier. They were fantastic.”

The New York Rangers need a big win

The Carolina Hurricanes won their inaugural series against the Boston Bruins in 7 games. The local teams have won every competition, and Rangers are hopeful that will remain the case for the next two matches.

They’ll have to find a way to generate more shots because they only packed 49 with 39 of them blocked.

“I think nothing happened that shook this team or shook this team,” Jacob Troupa said. “It’s just keeping your head down and playing that next match. We’ve been in the games, our chains, and we’ve been in loopholes before. We just keep working our way up and that’s what we’re going to do. We’re going into match 3 and grinding and hopefully we can find a way to win that match.”

For a man, Rangers have maintained the balance that playoff teams need to be successful. It worked in their favor against the Pittsburgh Penguins in the first round, helping them come back from a 3-1 series deficit to win the 7 OT.

Artemi Panarin, who scored the series’ winning goal, was held without a shot on Friday and has only two shots in the series. In fact, the team’s two best lines were combined with a combined total of only 16 shots.

“I don’t just judge [the game] on our youth. [Carolina] “We had 9 chances and we had 5 or 6 chances,” Gallant explained. It was a defensive battle. So I won’t blame our guys for not creating scoring opportunities. Their companions didn’t have much either. Do I want more opportunities? Of course I will. But we played two good hockey games there. I want more attack from our best players… We need to find a way to get more.”

The Rangers are delighted to return to Madison Square Garden where they were 3-1 against the Penguins, losing only three times in the first game. The goal was late in the third half.

“It’s huge to be coming home,” said Gerard Gallant. “It’s a long streak. We’ve been here before and we’ve done it before. Hopefully we can recover the same way we did against Pittsburgh.”

On the flip side, hurricanes aren’t likely to change anything at all.

“I think if we just stick to our style, he will eventually wear that style in the teams and we will find a way to win,” said Brendan Smith.

The former Rangers defensive player is now a big star in the series for Carolina after scoring a match-cutting goal and winning Game 2.

The showdown is set for 3:30 PM ET and the local fans still strongly believe in this team. On Saturday, I ran Twitter poll Fans are asking for their thoughts on the series as he moves on to The Garden.

Of the 1,650 votes cast, 51.6% think Rangers can tie the chain, with only 24.4 feeling it’s over. 24% are not sure.
