The best vacation destinations around the world have been revealed. By accounting for increases in travel destination search volumes on popular social networking site Pinterest, trend experts WeThrift have come up with which destinations are trending around the world among travelers and could be set to welcome huge crowds this summer. Here’s a look at the top trending destinations – and what you need to visit.
Popular Destinations – Information for Travelers
Research by WeThrift found that Porto, Portugal It was the most popular destination in the world, with a 62% increase in searches on Pinterest.
The perfect weekend destination in Europe, this colorful riverside city is more than worth a trip for any traveler, as millions flock there to enjoy its famous pastries and wander its cobblestone streets. To enter Portugal, travelers must show either evidence of vaccination, proof of recovery or a negative Covid-19 test result (taken within 72 hours for PCR tests or 48 hours for rapid antigen tests).
Near Porto was an island Corfu, which saw a 61% increase in search volume. With its pristine coastline, gorgeous rocky faces, and deep blue sea – not to mention fresh, healthy cuisine – it’s easy to see why Corfu is coming this summer. It’s very easy to visit too, as Greece has removed all entry requirements related to Covid-19.
With a 44% increase in searches, Italy is amazing Lake Como It is the third most popular destination. With views of the huge, sprawling lake since long since they dominated travel bloggers’ social media pages and pages alike, it looks like all of their daydreams of escaping to Como during lockdown will come true this summer. As with Portugal, travelers must show either proof of vaccination, proof of recovery or a negative Covid-19 test result in order to be able to enter.
Famous for its beaches, Spanish architecture, and island wineries Mallorca Trending about 35% increase in searches. The largest of the Balearic Islands, the charm of Mallorca has been attracting Europeans for decades, and is now in the crosshairs of travel hungry people around the world. Travelers to Spain must be fully vaccinated – with a booster dose if the last shot was taken more than nine months ago. The country recently made changes to allow non-vaccinated travelers to enter with a PCR test done within 72 hours or an antigen test done within 24 hours.
The second Greek island to appear on the list, travelers seem to have been dreaming of standing against a backdrop of blue and white traditional Greek buildings once again. Searches for Mykonos It rose by 32%, with the island being equally popular with young adults who embraced the festive side at the time as well as families looking for a more relaxing experience.
Few cities are breathtaking Istanbul An opinion clearly shared by the masses with a 26% increase in searches. The city has it all. From the historical remnants of empires scattered throughout the city, to a thriving nightlife scene – not to mention sprawling bazaars, enthusiastic locals, and stunning views – Istanbul deserves a place on any traveller’s list. Full vaccinated travelers with proof do not need to be tested prior to entry, while unvaccinated travelers must show either a PCR test performed within 72 hours or an antigen test performed within 48 hours.
Long after establishing itself as a solid favorite among travelers around the world, it looks like the world’s most popular party island will be back in full swing this summer, with interest in Ibiza at 26%. Like Mykonos, there is more to their island than its clubs, as the northern tip proves to be much quieter and its beautiful beaches cater to all types of travelers.
With the vast majority of entry barriers to Thailand now removed, the hugely popular destination is back in business. Searches for Phuket – the country’s largest and most popular island – are up 26%, with travelers keen to explore the nightlife of Patong or the scenic beaches of Rawai, Kata and Nai Harn once again. All travelers to Thailand must have a Thailand Pass, which can be submitted here – but it looks like this requirement may be on its way out over the next few weeks.
